Dr. Irene Ojiugo Patrick-Ogbogu, the Executive Director, Disability Rights Advocacy Center (DRAC) has emerged unopposed for the position of 2nd Vice President(Para) into the Board of the Nigeria Shooting Sport Federation, NSSF.
This happened at the Federation’s election that took place on Thursday, 30th September, 2021 at the Nigeria National Shooting Range, Abuja where Brigadier General Lonsdale Adeoye (Rtd) lost his re-election bid for the post of President into the Board of the Nigeria Shooting Sport Federation, NSSF.
In an election that recorded a landside for the newly elected President Commander Olatunji Bamidele Ayoade, where he defeated the former NSSF boss with eleven (11) votes against two (2) votes.
Jibreel Nazeer Kabeer emerged the consensus 1st Vice President(able-bodied) with thirteen votes while Dr. Irene Patrick-Ogbogu emerged unopposed for the position of 2nd Vice President(Para).
The 2nd Vice President(Para) in her remarks at the first post-election meeting of the Board, said that she remains committed towards promoting and improving Para-shooting as well as ensuring that the rights of persons with disabilities in the sport are protected.
She bemoaned the lack of resources for the para-shooters which hinders them from exploring their potentials in the sport, it includes competing at regional and international platforms such as the Paralympics and many others.
Other members of the new Board are five Zonal Representatives, Technical Representative, Athletes’ Representative, a representative each from NAWIS, NAPHER and Sponsored member.
The new NSSF Board alongside other newly elected Sports Federation Boards will be inaugurated by Nigeria’s Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja in a date yet to be announced.
Brigadier General Lonsdale Adeoye in his post-election remarks said that the election has been held and election result declared. He is still observing the development and will raise his concerns later if there is any because there were some observations certainly.
“I hope we learn more by doing what is right using the approved International Shooting Sport Federation, ISSF, Constitution”, he added.
The President-elect, Commander Ayoade Bamidele, thanked members for their overwhelming support and thanked God for the outcome of the election.
He was excited by the belief/trust that the members have for him and extended his appreciation to all contestants.
He adjudged the election to be free and fair and promised to take Nigeria Shooting Sport Federal to an enviable height.
He also promised to work with all relevant stakeholders to achieve his desired result.
He extended his hands of fellowship to General Adeoye who is still a Board member of the Federation because he is willing to tap from his wealth of experience in his quest to take the Federation to a greater height.
Commander Ayoade also assured the second vice president (Para) Dr. Irene of his commitment to addressing all challenges faced by parashooters.
He promised all-inclusive leadership in the tenure of four years of the new board.
