New Leadership to Propel JONAPWD Ekiti State: Advocating Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities

In a momentous event held in Ado-Ekiti, the Joint National Association of Persons with Disability (JONAPWD) Ekiti State chapter ushered in a new era with the election of dynamic executive leaders set to shape the organization’s trajectory for the next three years.

The South West coordinator of JONAPWD, Mr Joseph Gbulugbe, oversaw the election, emphasizing the crucial role the new leaders play in advancing the inclusion of persons with disabilities across society. Gbulugbe urged the elected officials to champion social, economic, and educational inclusion, emphasizing that such efforts contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate world for everyone.

Adding to the significance of the occasion, Mr Olugbenga Obanise, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Biodun Oyebanji on disabilities matters, was present to encourage unity among the newly elected executives. He affirmed the state government’s ongoing commitment to prioritize the welfare of persons with disabilities, pledging steadfast support for their initiatives.

Mrs Adetoun Agboola, Special Adviser to the Ekiti State Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, lent her voice to the call for increased awareness. She urged the new leaders to venture into rural areas, amplifying the organization’s presence and recruiting fresh members. Agboola underscored the state government’s dedication to ensuring equal opportunities and access to quality education and services for persons with disabilities.

Expressing gratitude for the support during his tenure, the former Chairman, Mr Kayode Owolabi, passed the torch to the new executive members, expressing confidence in their ability to elevate the association to greater heights and fulfill its objectives.

Mr Peter Ojo, Chairman of the Electoral Committee of JONAPWD, Ekiti State Chapter, reassured members that the election adhered to all legal requirements and protocols. He emphasized the fairness, credibility, and reflective nature of the results, asserting that they truly represent the will of the members.

The newly elected executive members, led by Mr. Familusi Tokunbo as Chairman, Mr Sesan Aina as first Vice Chairman, and Mr Oni Oluwafemi as Secretary, among others, bring a wealth of dedication and passion to their roles. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Tokunbo expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and his team, vowing to work tirelessly to fulfill their mandate and uphold the association’s vision and mission.

Mr. Tokunbo also extended an appeal to the state government and other stakeholders, urging collaboration in addressing the challenges and needs of persons with disabilities in Ekiti State. The association, under his leadership, remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities, ensuring their active inclusion in the development of both the state and the nation.

This transformative moment marks not only a change in leadership but a renewed commitment to building a more inclusive and compassionate society for all.
