NDW, AYFAI, NHRC sign MOU to partner on the inclusion of CBR in the World Health Assembly resolution

Network of Disabled Women(NDW), Africa Young Female Advisers Initiatives (AYFAI) and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday 17th 2021 at the National Human Rights Commission office Maitama Abuja, signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) .

The Executive Secretary of the commission represented by Mr Tahiru Bubu, the Director of Vulnerable Groups Department while signing the memorandum of understanding between Africa Young Female Advisers Iniatiaive and Network of Disabled Women stated that is part of the commissions mandate to partner with NGOs, DPOs, CSOs and other government agencies to achieve the Implementation of UNCRPD in the country and also the SDG Goals article 17 encourages partnerships to achieve the Implementations of the Goals.

He commended the efforts of AYFAI and NDW so far in fostering the needed change through their Advocacy and Iniatiaives.The President of NDW, Mrs Lois Auta in her remarks stated some of the achievements of NDW during the COVID-19 pandemic through the partnership and collaborations with the Ministry of Women Affairs under the leadership of Hon. Minister Mrs. Pauline Tallen and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management under the leadership of Hon. Minister Sadiyatu Farouk which jointly provided palliatives for over 4000 Persons with Disabilities. She further commended the efforts of the NHRC in making the signing of the MOU a reality.

Speaking further, she said that the group want to see our health systems and rehabilitation services being affordable, inclusive and accessible to vulnerable groups especially persons with disabilities.

The President, Africa Young Female Advisers Initiative (AYFAI), Mrs. Abiodun Essiet, in her speech stated the achievements of AYFAI in areas of gender based violence, inclusive health and their influence in hosting world health assembly in Nigeria. She further stressed the need for partnership and collaborations between government agencies and organisations to drive the needed change in our society.

The Roles of the parties in the MOU are as follows;

A. The AYFAI and NDW Shall:

1. Provide the necessary support and cooperations needed for the implementation of the project.

2. Provide funding to meet the obligations and logistics for the project.

B THE COMMISSION Undertakes:

1. To advance the proposed project aimed at bringing about positive social change with respect to the rights to health as provided by the UNCRPD.

2. To ensure swift dissemination of information and provide platforms to drive the core message in the UNCRPD on highest attainable health for PWDs to the World Health Assembly.

3. To collaborate with AYFAI and NDW on driving inclusion of Community Based Rehabilitation in the World Health Assembly resolution.

4. To provide necessary information, it’s officers towards creating awareness on a lifesaving health care and opportunities for meaningful economic participation.

5. The commission will provide technical support for the implementation of this MOU.

C. JOINT OBLIGATIONS:

1. The parties shall assign tasks for the success of the project.

2. The parties through their established network shall provide material and personnel to support the projects action steps and activities aimed at promoting inclusive, accessible and affordable health care services/facilities for PWDs and other Vulnerable population groups.

3. The parties shall designate contacts persons authorized to act on behalf of each party to facilitate coordination provisions of feedback, advice, progress and information sharing.

4. The parties shall share necessary information on such matters and help develop strategies to ensure that Community Based Rehabilitation is included in the world health assembly.

5. The parties shall not communicate or cause to communicated to a person or other entities, information or publish materials independently made known by one of the parties except as agreed.
