TQM report,
National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has plan to offer scholarship to persons with disabilities as a means of reducing the number of children with disabilities who are out of school.
The Executive Secretary, NCPWD, Mr. James David Lalu revealed this plan on Monday during his speech at a 5-day Workshop on curriculum Development on Disability and Inclusive Development.
Mr. Lalu said during the formation of the Commission, the President Muhammadu Buhari gave the Commission a directive to make education attractive for persons with disabilities, it was on this basis coupled with millions of children with disabilities who are out of school that the commission would be introducing several educational programmes to encourage PWDs to go back to school.
A scholarship programme cutting across PWDs from primary, secondary to tertiary education and many other programmes are measures towards making education attractive for PWDs.
A committee made up academia from Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and some persons with disabilities is currently working to develop a curriculum on disability which would be adopted by educational regulatory bodies to mainstream disability studies in the general studies at all higher institutions in the country.
