NCPWD Seeks Stronger Ties With National Hospital For Better Healthcare of PWDs

In other to build better working relationship and deliver an improved health care for Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu payed a courtesy visit to the National hospital today in Abuja..

In a press release signed by Mbanefo JohnMicheal I, the Head of Media and Publicity Unit, NCPWD, the ES who seized the occasion to appreciate the management of the hospital for recieving the delegation, also disclosed that the Commission has engaged in providing assistance to Persons with Albinism in the treatment of cancer. 

He however, regretted the loss of a Person With Albinism just recently in Akwa Ibom due to skin cancer.

“We will not relent in our efforts to continue the fight against skin cancer and providing succour to Persons with Albinism across the states in Nigeria, “he said. 

In a quick response, the Medical Director, National Hospital Abuja, Dr. Jaf Momoh expressed excitement over the efforts of the Commission is making especially, in the process of identity management. 

“We are definitely impressed with the innovations you have brought to bare and will surely emulate it” he said.

Dr. Momoh equally decried low funding for skin cancer surgeries and advocated more supports from willing donors. He also assured of the hospital management’s commitment to honouring the 5% provision for employment of PWDs. 

“We shall constitute a Committee that will be solely responsible for the recruitment exercise of persons with Disabilities as we await the list from the Commission”

Meanwhile the Director, Clinical Services/ Board Member, Dr. Aisha Umar in her vote of thanks, appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for establishing the Commission and also informed the meeting of the Hospital’s long interest in the welfare of Persons with Albinism as well as the program held on cancer screening during a health talk with women last year.
