NCPWD plans to model Inclusive schools in all the zones in Nigeria

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) have planned to establish model schools for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) across the six geopolitical zones.

The Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Mr. James Lalu, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja, during a press briefing to mark one-year existence of the Commission.

The ES said that the Commission is taking this step to ensure PWDs enjoy free education from primary to secondary school as it is enshrined in Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.

He said that the Commission want to model the kind of school that others should copy which will have accessibility facilities and it will be Inclusive.

He informed that the Commission just concluded data collection of persons with disabilities(PWDs) and soonest, there would be cash transfer to 50,000 PWDs to set up small businesses.

He also informed that the Commission is collaborating with UK to award scholarships to PWD to study in the UK. He said that some of PWDs are preparing to leave Nigeria to study at UK courtsey of the scholarship  and some others would be leaving for the UK next year.

He also said that the Comission is committed and open for partnership and collaboration and the Commission through the open partnerships with US and UK to provide opportunity for PWDs in some universities in the United States and UK.

He said that the Commission is working to ensure and motivate PWD to acquire technical skills outside Nigeria, which they can bring back to help the Commission and persons with Disabilities in their quest to change the narrative.

The Press briefing was concluded with  a presentation of the Pictorial illustration of the achievements of the Commission for past one year by The Director Finance and Account.
