The Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Dr. James David Lalu and the V.C NSUK, Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed.
Going by the provisions in sections 2 to 19 of the Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities 2018( Prohibition) Act, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Dr. James David Lalu has taken the advocacy on accessibility to another pedestal through partnership with the Nasarawa State University, keffi (NSUK).
Earlier in his office, today 16th January, 2024, Lalu received a high powered delegation of the Institution led by the Viice Chancellor, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed in a courtesy visit to the Commission.
He seized the favourable chance to educate the meeting on the need to develop an all- round curriculum on Disabilities for total inclusivity for accessibility compliance.
Dr. Lalu further highlighted that the University system is basically designed as a problem-solving venture beyond the academia.
“Our lecturers are expected to mentor students into creativity for inventions that will drive progress and development in the society in different ramifications” he added.
The Executive Secretary also emphasized that as there are Professionals giving inputs in building processes, so it is necessary to have Consultants on Disability Engineering from foundation to structural completion.
Earlier in his address, the Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, keffi, Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed, took time to commend the Executive Secretary for his exceptional skills in galvanizing the potentials of Persons With Disabilities.
The VC, however proposed for a synergy which he stated will constitute a task team from both the Commission and the University in order to drive disability studies and the support centers.
According to him, the support centers are meant to have diverse assistive devices that will ensure acceptable conditions and seamless accessibility Standards within the campus.
The high point of the event was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Commission and the University.
