The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Comrade Bala Tsoho Musa, a distinguished disability advocate and educationist, who died on October 19, 2024.
In a heartfelt statement signed by the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Chief Ayuba Gufwan, the agency conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family and the entire disability community in Nigeria. “On behalf of the 35.5 million Nigerians with disabilities, we extend our sincere condolences to the family of Comrade Bala Tsoho Musa,” the statement read.
The Commission acknowledged that the circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation but offered prayers for divine strength for the family in these trying times.
Comrade Tsoho was described as a visionary educationist and tireless advocate whose work left an indelible mark on disability rights in Nigeria. His efforts in advancing the literacy of children with disabilities and contributing to the realization of Nigeria’s disability law were lauded. “He will not be forgotten in a hurry,” the Commission noted, underscoring his lasting impact.
In its message, the NCPWD reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive policies and programs across Nigeria’s 774 local governments, pledging to carry forward Comrade Tsoho’s legacy of empowerment and inclusion for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
“Requiescat in pace,” the statement concluded, invoking the hope that Comrade Tsoho finds eternal rest.
Comrade Bala Tsoho’s death marks a profound loss to the disability community and the nation at large, as many remember him for his passion, advocacy, and relentless dedication to building a more inclusive society.
