The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) on Wednesday 30th of June, 2021 played host to the part 2 of the stakeholders’ meeting on Assistive Technology Country Capacity Assessment Validation at the Plateau House office Abuja.
The meeting which was prompted by the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) was aimed at validating the final report review arrived at during the previous assembly.
In press statement sent to TQM signed by Mbanefo JohnMichael I, Head Media and Publicity, NCPWD, The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr James David Lalu who was represented at the event by the Ag. Director Social Integration Department NCPWD Mr Lawrence Idemudia said that the Commission is set to develop a sustainable financial system that will help in the procurement and provisions of the Assistive Technology for Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria.
He further stated that in dealing with the policy created in the procurement of Assistive Technology (AT), the Commission is already creating Data and Information System that will help the suppliers of the apparatus to know the total numbers of PWDs in the country.
In addition the ES disclosed that the Commission in union with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development are developing a road map which will ensure that the right procedure in obtaining the device for PWDs both at the Federal and State levels is put in place.
Assistive Technology Country Investment Fund – Nigeria (Country Capacity Assessment CCA) which was earlier reviewed on 25th June, 2021 was validated.
Assistive Technology Country Capacity Assessment CCA) is a high-level assessment carried out by CHAI to ascertain Nigeria capacity to finance, procure and provide AT to meet population needs, using the ATA-C toolkit as a guiding instrument. It geared towards improving the present situation of the country on the availability of assistive technology.
Present at the meeting were delegations from Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTB), Ministry of Education and the Qualitative Magazine representative Mr Chris Agbo.
