Mamador Rewards Medal-Winning Olympians And Paralympians With N6.5m

Team Nigeria athletes who won medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games were grateful recipients of Mamador’s windfall on Thursday as the brand presented them with a cheque for N6.5 million at a ceremony in Lagos.

THEWILL recalls that of the 60-athlete contingent Nigeria took to the Tokyo Olympic Games, only two returned with medals: Blessing Oborodudu won a silver medal in wrestling and Ese Brume won a bronze medal in the long jump events.

The lacklustre outcome was bettered when the country took home four gold, one silver, and five bronze medals at the Paralympic Games that followed. Women made up the bulk of the Nigerian competitors who won medals at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Mamador’s Head of Marketing, Chioma Mbanugo, revealed at a reception yesterday that the company opted to honour the athletes in keeping with its vision.

She said: “At Mamador, we pride ourselves as a brand that brings more flavours to life, allow women to experience life outside the routines, motivate them to see life’s limitless possibilities and empower them to achieve fulfillment in their chosen endeavours.

“In demonstrating this objective, the Mamador brand is celebrating our heroics medallists at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympics Games.”

CP Bankole Anderson, vice president of the Nigeria Paralympics Committee, praised Mamador for the cash and material gifts, which he characterised as a significant source of encouragement for the participants. He urged other corporations to follow Mamador’s lead by complimenting athletes before and after significant contests.
