Imo State govt will continue to clamp down on Baby factories— Commissioner, Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu has reiterated Government resolve to clamp down baby factories in the state. The Commissioner stated this during a meeting with other Government appointees on Vulnerable Group and other related matters in her office recently.

She informed them of the large scope of the Ministry which takes care of Gender issues both men and women, the Vulnerable Group which include persons with disabilities, the children and the motherless babies among others and informed them of the wonderful support she has been receiving from the wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma. Lady Ugwu disclosed to them that the Governor’s wife is passionate about the well being of women, children and all vulnerable groups in the state and has a comprehensive package to improve their lot. She used the opportunity to advise operators of illegal nursing homes and orphanages in the state to desist from such practices as her Ministry will continue to embark on inspection visits to such homes with a view to closing them. She introduced the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Chikaodi Emenalom whom she described as a round peg on a round hole.

In their separate remarks, the appointees pledged their unalloyed support and cooperation to the Imo State Government and Hon. Commissioner in moving the Ministry to an enviable height. They each reported on the progress of their work and ways to improve the ministry. Those present during the meeting were:- the S.A to the Governor on Special Citizens, Hon. Samuelson Emehibe, Mrs. Ann Dozie, S.A to the Governor on Nursing, Midwifery and Adoption matters, Sulaman Ibrahim Sulaman, SSA Northern Affairs male, Dr. Stanley Nwankwo JONAPWD President, Hon. Bright Uzoma, former JONAPWD President, Hajiya Fatima Hamza, S.S.A Northern Affairs Women, Hon. Lady Chidimma Oparaocha SSA on Special Education and Orphanages, and Hon Charles Ebonuma, SSA on Special citizens.
