The Executive Director, Inclusive Friends Association IFA, Grace Jerry has expressed shock over the sudden demise of Barr. Danlami Basharu, (MON).
Grace in a statement of the IFA said; “Our prayers are with the family and friends of Barr. Danlami Umaru Basharu, MON the Executive Director and Founder of the Anglo-Nigerian Welfare Association for the Blind (ANWAB) who passed on 6 June 2023 following surgery at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Ikeja”.
According to Grace, Barr. Basharu until his death was a close ally of IFA and a her mentor and have held several leadership positions in the disability community, including former President of the National Association of persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) and former Representative of Nigeria in the United Nations Convention Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, New York.
“Through ANWAB, Barr. Basharu ensured the transcription of textbooks into Braille, which improved inclusive education and gainful employment for persons who are blind”.
“Rest with the Lord, Barr. Danlami Basharu”.
