IDPD 2023: ES, NCPWD James Lalu Tasks 35.5M PWDs In Nigeria On Unity To Achieve Inclusivity, SDGs goals

The Executive Secretary National, Commission for Persons with Disabilities Mr James David Lalu has called on the 35.5 million Nigerians with Disabilities to remain steadfast and with unity of purpose in order to achieve inclusivity and the SDGs goals.

The ES made this statement in Abuja, today 3rd December, 2023 while fielding questions from journalists on the commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities which is marked every 3rd December worldwide.In his speech the Executive Secretary disclosed that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development.”

The Commission under the watch of His Excellency, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is set to bring all Persons with Disabilities together, UNITED IN ACTION TO RESCUE AND ACHIEVE THE SDGs FOR, WITH AND BY PERSONS WITH DISABLITIES as the theme of this year’s event stands” he said.

Lalu further disclosed that NCPWD has started rolling out its programs in honor of the important event which commenced with a novelty football march as played by Persons with Disabilities at Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, yesterday 2nd December, 2023.

“Our programs for the event are aimed at raising awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life” the ES reiterated.

The ES also called on all Nigerians to work on the same pedestrian with persons with disabilities in order to design and deliver solutions based on equal rights Persons with Disabilities in every community in Nigeria.

However, the colour purple is now widely acknowledged to be associated with campaigns related to disability and 3rd December is recognised as Purple Light Up Day, organised by PurpleSpace.
