Joy to the World Special Needs Initiative (JWSNI) on 3rd December in Abuja visited School for the Blind Jabi, FCT to mark the International Day for Persons with Disability IDPD 2021 with the theme: Leadership and Participation of Persons with Disabilities toward an Inclusive, Accessible, and Sustainable Post Covid-19.
Dr. Grace Nweke Ilori, Executive Director, JWSNI appreciated the school for giving them the opportunity to talk with the pupils, she also appreciated the pupils and told them is just like last year, JWSNI was in their school to celebrate the IDPD 2020 with them, now they are here again to support and encourage them again. She said they should not let anybody talk them down, they should keep their shoulders high and stay focus in their study to achieve their dreams in life.
Mr. Daniel Ishiuwea who is also a blind person motivated and encouraged the students, in his speech, he appreciated the pupils for being focused in their academics.
He highlighted three points they need to actualize their dream “your mind, what you hear, and finally what you say about yourself”.
He said that they should focus on their career so that they can be able to achieve their dreams and become whatsoever they want to be in the future.
He also said that they should not relent in their studies, and they should always say positive things to themselves.
He also mentioned two things that can help one actualize one’s dreams which is being close to God and constant studying is the key to good results.
He said that some PWDs have made names despite their disability they have really achieved somethings in life and have also impacted in others like Cobhams the musician who is blind, but despite his blindness he has given back to the society. He encouraged them to pray always, study effortlessly, visualize their dreams, work to actualize it.
“Finally define who you are and work towards achieving that”.
The school choir made a presentation of their melodious songs to entertain their guest, JWSNI team gave 27 pupils new school bags and promised to get more for them next time, the pupils who got the bags were happy and appreciated JWSNI team.
