I don’t allow my condition to affect my dreams and drives in life—Newly elected councilor with Disability

TQM report,

Physically challenged, Abiodun Akinbami Mutiu who was elected as Councillor during the recently held local government elections in Ogun State has said, though he has been physically challenged but not in anyway disabled.

The Councillor representing Abeokuta North, Gbagura Ward 6 on the umbrella of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) disclosed this to our Report on Thursday at the premises of Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Honourable Mutiu said he had been in politics for several years and had contested for councillorship in 2015 on the platform of UPN. He recalled that he received huge votes from the electors in his ward but unfortunately, because he was not in the ruling party, the mandate freely given to him by the people was stolen.

This charming and well focused young man said even though he was not born a person with physical Disability, he had never allowed his state to affect his dreams and drives in life.

He said, as much as it is sometimes difficult to do certain things all by himself, he believed he could become whatever he chose to be.

“Sir, honestly I believe, by the Special Grace of God, I can attain any height in life. I believe I can become the Governor of the state and even the President of this country one day. I do not see any limit”.

Mutiu stated that, with his election as Councillor he had become a symbol of unending possibility for fellow persons with disabilities and would like them to know learn for his pain, failure and victory. ” No doubt persons with disabilities in Nigeria suffer so much because no adequate provision for us, my belief is that, with our own ‘never say die’ spirit, government will look in our direction”, he stated.

He disclosed that he might not be able to attend to all the needs of his fellow persons with disabilities in his ward and its environs but promised to give them quality representation.

Honourable Mutiu used the opportunity to thank the people of his ward who reposed so much confidence in him by electing him to represent them in spite of his status as physically challenged person.

The bubbling Councillor poured encomiums on the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun for what he described as ‘purpose driven governance’ he has been offering the state since he took up the mantle of leadership. “We are happy with his result oriented governance. We are proud of his transformational efforts in all facets of human endeavours. I pray God continue to be with him”.
