HAPI Hosts 2-Day Stakeholders’ Forum on Disability Inclusion in Benue State

In a bid to foster greater disability inclusion and advocate for rights-based development approaches, Hope Alive for Possibilities Initiative (HAPI) convened a two-day High-Level Stakeholders’ Forum on Disability Inclusion in Benue State. The forum, held on the 2nd and 3rd of May 2024, brought together key stakeholders, advocates, and leaders under the theme, “Adopting Rights-based and Inclusive Development Approaches in the Domestication of Disability Law in Benue State.”

In her opening remarks, Aver Akighir, Executive Director of HAPI, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to convene such a crucial gathering. She emphasized the importance of collective efforts in paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable future for all individuals in Benue State. Akighir extended heartfelt appreciation to the Disability Rights Fund (DRF) for their unwavering support in making the forum possible.

As the forum concluded its second day, participants reflected on the insightful and engaging discussions that had taken place. Day two saw stakeholders delve deeper into meaningful conversations, share experiences, and brainstorm innovative ideas aimed at advancing disability inclusion and rights-based development in Benue State.

The atmosphere throughout the day was marked by palpable energy and passion as participants collaborated to explore new strategies and solutions for creating a more inclusive society. From exploring policy frameworks to sharing best practices, the forum provided a platform for robust dialogue and collaboration.

Acknowledging the contributions of all participants, speakers, and panelists, Akighir commended their dedication and commitment to driving positive change. She emphasized the importance of their expertise, wisdom, and perspectives in making the forum a resounding success.

A highlight of the event was the facilitation by renowned disability inclusive development expert, Dr. Adekunle Adebayo, whose guidance enriched the discussions and provided valuable insights. The forum was further graced by the presence of Theophilus Odaudu, Program Manager, West Africa at DRF, whose support and encouragement underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing disability rights and inclusion.
