Group champions cause, unveils foundation for PWDs

By Cleopatra Eki,

A visually impaired rights crusader, Kelly Blind has called on the government to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities, to recognise and protect their rights.

He said this during the unveiling of lnner Eyes Foundation, created to empower persons with disabilities. He urged guests and celebrities present at the event to work together with the society to tackle the obstacles, injustices and discrimination that persons with disabilities experience.

He said he has been championing the course for people with disabilities through his radio ‘Better Naija’ programme for over seven years, despite stiff opposition from various quarters.

He urged the government, especially Delta State to build special schools, vocational centres and infrastructure for them. “As an indigene of Niger Delta regions, blessed with the crude oil but there are no special schools for the blinds, deaf and even vocational training for people with disabilities. Sadly, most of the people with disabilities are languishing and unproductive in those regions, “he said.

Ovy King, an entertainer, described Kelly Blind as a comedy player that has endeared him to Nigeria and International communities.
