Governor Zulum Approves Employment for 15 Persons with Disabilities in Borno State

In a move demonstrating unwavering commitment to inclusivity and empowerment, Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has given the green light for the employment of 15 individuals with disabilities who have completed formal education and obtained various qualifications, ranging from bachelor’s degrees to vocational training certificates.

The announcement came during a heartfelt gathering at the Government House in Maiduguri on Friday night, where Governor Zulum lauded the determination and resilience of the recipients. Despite facing challenges associated with their disabilities, these individuals pursued education, showcasing admirable dedication and drive.

“I am delighted to note that despite your disability, you people are not lazy; you decided to pursue your education, and for this, I want to commend you,” remarked Governor Zulum during the gathering.

With a commitment to fostering further opportunities for individuals with disabilities, Governor Zulum directed the Commissioner of Education, Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, to evaluate the activities of all blind schools in Borno State to facilitate the training of more people with disabilities. Additionally, the Ministry of Education was tasked with developing plans to introduce special education courses at the College of Education in Bama, thereby enhancing educational opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

“I am happy that they have obtained their qualifications in different specializations. Let’s strengthen the College of Education in Bama to start delivering courses on special education,” Governor Zulum emphasized, underscoring the importance of specialized education and training.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Borno State Branch of the Nigerian Association of the Blind, Mohammed Mustapha, the Branch Chairman, extended heartfelt appreciation to Governor Zulum for his unwavering support and approval of employment opportunities for members of the association.

The directive from Governor Zulum signifies a significant step forward in the quest for inclusivity and empowerment in Borno State. By prioritizing the employment and educational opportunities for persons with disabilities, the government is not only recognizing their potential but also actively working towards creating a more equitable and inclusive society for all residents of Borno State.
