Festus Fajemilo Foundation (FFF) has hosted a one-day ideation workshop on Community of Practice for Inclusive Education (COMPIE), towards improving the delivery of inclusive education in Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
The workshop, funded by Liliane Foundation and supported by The Leprosy Mission Nigeria, had civil society actors working on Education in attendance.
Mr. Afolabi Fajemilo, the Executive Director of FFF in his opening remark, explained that the COMPIE is designed as a knowledge-sharing platform to ensure that good practices are replicated within the education sector, with the aim of improving the status of inclusive education.
Mr. Fajemilo also noted that “the web-based platform for a community of practice on inclusive education will provide up-to-date resources and materials that can be useful for stakeholders in the education sectors.
“Most importantly, the platform would provide an opportunity for cross-learning and sharing which would help to ensure that children with disabilities have access to quality and inclusive education,” he added.
Dr. Adebukola Adebayo, a disability inclusion expert, shared that it is important that partners consider the platform as an opportunity to harmonize all the gains and efforts that have been made in advancing inclusive education in Lagos State.
He disclosed that the project is being piloted in Lagos State with the goal of expanding to the National level.
Stakeholders at the event also acknowledge the importance of the community of practice, which according to them, would drive best practices in disability inclusion, not just in the education sector but across various sectors of the society.
