ES, NCPWD James Lalu Applauds Calister Ugwunweke’s Victory as Vice President, Africa Union Of The Blind

The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr James David Lalu has applauded the emergence of Barrister Calister Chinyere Ugwunweke as the Vice President of the African Union of the Blind through the keenly contested election of the Union held recently.

The ES demonstrated this gesture of gratitude when he received in audience a team from the National Association of the Blind who payed him a friendly visit in his office, today 23rd November, 2023.

Addressing the meeting, the visibly elated Executive Secretary opined that Nigeria will continue to maintain her position as the giant of Africain in all works of life

“We will continue to lead the African region in a positive light with high intellectual capacity and skills that will put Persons with Disabilities in the global spot” he asserted.

The ES unequivocally commended the resilience and immesurable support of the President of the National Association of the Blind, Comrade Stanley Onyebuchi who unilaterally supported the success of Nigeria at the conference.

Lalu further hinted at the warm reception and honor bestowed upon him at Barat in Morocco where the country offered to assist Nigeria in the provisions of cochlear implant and donation of a Braille center to Nigeria.

Convasly, the Commission’s Boss also promised total support for the blind Mechanic who has demonstrated exceptional skills in auto-mechanics in the last 29 years.

He, therefore, assured that the Commission will help to establish a Mechanic Workshop for him before the end of the second quarter of the coming year.

He, however, informed of the Commission’s preparedness to honor Persons With Disabilities who have been exceptional in their daily lives with the awards of excellence on December 6th, 2023 in Abuja, during the forthcoming commemoration of the International Disability Day.

On the other hand, the Vice President elect of the African Union of the Blind, Calister Chinyere Ugoaneke in her reaction, thanked the Executive Secretary and the Nigerian delegation for their support during the election which was keenly contested among Ethiopia, Lesotho, Tanzania and Morocco.

She equally urged that Nigeria should continue to advance her legal framework that will ensure affirmative actions in disability matters in the future.
