ES, Disability Commission, James Lalu implores Abia State Government for the passage of the State Disability Act

THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY, NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, PLEADS TO ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT FOR THE PASSAGE OF THE ABIA STATE DISABILITY ACT.

The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disability, Mr. James Lalu has urged the Government of Abia state to look into the passage of the Abia state disability act.

This came to the fall at the maiden edition of the Abia State Disability Summit and Exhibition Organized by El- New Hope foundation in Collaboration with the Abia State Government, with the theme “2021- 2030 Disability Development Strategy, The Pathway to Sustainable Development”.

The ES ,in his presentation, mentioned some salient reasons why the Government of Abia, should facilitate the passage of the Disability Act in the state.

Amongst which he said, the passage of the Act will serve as Independence to the Disability Community in the state, stressing that it will provide a conducive and friendlier environment for Persons with Disability to operate in as well as showcasing their talents, rights and potentials, however, bringing vast opportunities for them to explore.

The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities standing with Persons with Disabilities in Abia to plead to the governor for the passage of the Abia State Disability Act.

During his presentation, he asked all Persons with Disabilities to stand up, standing with them in unison, on behalf of the entire Disability Community in Abia, he emphasized his plea to the Government of Abia state to look into the need for the passage of the Abia State Disability Act.

Mr James Lalu, on behalf of Persons with Disability presented an Award to the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Okezie Victor Ikpeazu (ph.D), who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, and Her Excellency Dr Nkechi Ikpeazu, who was represented by her chief of staff, in recognition of her service to God and humanity.

In the same vein, the Deputy Governor, Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, on behalf of El- New Hope foundation for Persons with Disabilities presented an award to the Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr James Lalu for being the first Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria and his selfless service to the development of Disability Community in Nigeria.

The Deputy Governor, The Executive Secretary and other dignitaries went round the exhibition and finally the Es, presented Empowerment tools to some persons with Disabilities.

The Summit, which was held on the 9th of March, 2021,had in attendance the Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr James David Lalu, who flew into the state from Abuja with his Team amongst which is the Director, Human Resources Management, (DHRM) Mr Baba Hassan.The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, other dignitaries and Stakeholders holders in the Disability Community were also present at the summit.
