Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilites (JONAPWD) Edo State Chapter has presented an award to Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun ksc in honour and appreciation of his distinctive contribution towards the passage of disability bill in the state.
Rt.Hon.Marcus Onobun ksc, while receiving the award said the passage of the bill and subsequent assent by the Governor is part of the resolve of the 7th Assembly to ensure passage of people oriented bills.
Rt.Hon.Marcus Onobun ksc stated that the house has a desire to ensure the full integration of persons with disabilities into society, where they would not be discriminated against.
The Speaker thanked JONAPWD for the honour and restated that it would spur him and the house of Assembly to concentrate on the Passage of more people oriented bills.
Earlier while presenting the award, the State chairman of JONAPWD, Comrade Ann Obehi Ojugo said that the honour to the Speaker became imperative due to the fact that he facilitated the speedy passage of the Edo State Disability Bill after twelve years of waiting periods by disability community to be well integrated into society.
Comrade Ojugo said the law has paved way for all persons with disabilities to have full access to healthcare delivery, education, social as well as political life.
JONAPWD is a National body which is a coalition of all persons with Disabilities, with offices across the 18 local government areas of the state.
