DRAC launches Toolkit to meet needs of WGWDs on SGBV

Disability Rights Advocacy Center (DRAC) on Monday in Abuja launched Toolkit on Disability Inclusive Service Delivery in Sexual &Gender Based Based Violence Response, Report of a Situation Analysis / Needs Assessment On Children With Disabilities and Child Protection in the FCT and two prototype of Access to the health facilities and access to police station.

Mr. Idris Agboluaje a program officer at DRAC said that the book is designed to address the SGBV that women and girls with disabilities are facing and their inability to accessing judiciary services and other services that will help them get justice.

“In a situation whereby they will go to the police to assist them access justice over SGBV related issues and the police would advise them to go and settle with the perpetrators”

He assured that the toolkit would go a long way to guide the women and girls with disabilities while seeking justice and also the service providers to understand how the best they access services to get justice.

He also said that DRAC did a mapping of inclusive and special schools and found out that a lot of children with disabilities are victims of Sexual and Gender based violence.

The Acting Director, Social Integration, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities (NCPWD), Mr. Lawrence Idemudia while unveiling the books said that the Executive Secretary of the NCPWD would be excited about this kind of books from DRAC that is geared towards guiding Women and girls with Disabilities to access justice for SGBV. He said that more books like this will be expecting from DRAC as Disability Community have witnessed 10years of DRAC’s impactful activities because most of leaders with a lot of capacity benefited from DRAC’s numerous capacity building programmes.

He wished DRAC well and urge persons with disabilities to find the books resourceful in access justice in the face of violations.

Other leaders such as Beatrice Mube, Agbo Chris, Obinna Ekujereonye and Barr. Uzoma who participated in the unveiling of the books eulogized DRAC for another milestone, expressed how impactful DRAC activities have helped to build their capacities and urged Women and Girls With Disabilities to use the book as a guide to access justice.

There was also launch of two prototypes of access to health facilities and police station. The prototypes showcased universal design in building and how to bridge communication barriers faced by Deaf women in those facilities.
