“Domestication of Disability Law In The States, A criterion for Participation In The World Bank Inclusion Programme”—ES, NCPWD James Lalu

The Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu has said that it is pertinent for State governments to take a cue from the goodwill of President Muhammadu Buhari and pass the Bill domesticating the law against the discrimination of Persons with disabilities and subsequent establishments of the Disability Rights Commission.

Lalu said this recently at the Government House, Nasarawa State when he payed a working visit to the Governor of the State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule.

While addressing the Governor, the ES expressed his gratitude stating that Nassarawa state is very strategic to the success of PWDs as it has shown such unparalleled amity towards persons with disabilities, right from the tenor of the immediate past Governor of the State, Senator Tanko Al-Makura.

He, in addition extolled the rapid response of the State government by passing the Bill domesticating the rights, welfare and inclusions of PWDs in the State.

In a press release signed by Mbanefo JohnMichaels I, the Head Media and Publicity, NCPWD, The ES further appealed that the Governor should consider Persons with Disabilities while constituting the Management cadre of the State Disability Rights Commission as they will know how best to stir the affairs of “their own Commission”

In furtherance to the Commission’s efforts to seeing that PWDs in Nasarawa State are included in Federal government social safety Net programs, Lalu promised that 600 PWDs in Nasarawa State are being considered to benefit from the ongoing Federal Government N-Power programs.

He also disclosed that the Commission is in partnership with World Bank for all inclusiveness of PWDs in the scheme of things and the development of disability inclusive plan.

“State governments whose interests and programs do not include PWDs will not benefit from such lofty endeavors” he disclosed.

In his response, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, his Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule thanked the ES for his doggedness towards alleviating the situations of PWDs in Nigeria. He promised that the State will work with the Commission to accomplish all expectations.

“I have known you right from the time of Al-Makura and I also observed your tenacity and intelligence as an individual while we both served in a Committee of our great party recently, your contributions were quite invaluable, please keep it up” the Governor observed.

The highpoint of the visit was the tour of the facilities at Nasarawa State Special school Lafia.
