Disability Media Group lauds Hon. Miriam Onuoha for moving motion to investigate discrimination against Air travellers with Disabilities

The Qualitative Magazine(TQM), a disability focused magazine have commended Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha for her good move towards ensuring that there is a stop to the discrimination faced by air travellers with disabilities.

The Executive Director of the group Agbo Christian Obiora in a statement said that they are thanking the Honourable member because as a chairman, House of Representative Committee on disability, she has been ensuring that the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 is being fully implemented.

She have practically become one of mouthpiece of the persons with disabilities, working closely with organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) to understand the issues and amazingly, she have been at the front whenever there is any right violation against persons with disabilities and the discrimination against travellers with disabilities is a practical example of how dedicated she has been towards since she was appointed as the Chairman House Committee on Disability.

The discrimination against air travellers with disabilities have discouraged persons with disabilities from embarking on air travel.

Mr. Agbo is a person with disability who have also had his own share of ugly experience while embarking on air travel.

He promised to support the Honourable member in her quest to stop discrimination of air travellers with disabilities. He recalled the experience of Chike Okogwu who was denied boarding by Dana Air simply because of a discriminatory policy that says that a wheelchair user can not board at nights.

This harmful practices have also made some women with disabilities to stop boarding for the fear of being carried and get exposed.

He further revealed that the group is willing to work the National Assembly, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities to put a stop to this inhumane behaviour against Persons with Disabilities and also the holistic implementation of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.
