Lalu made the statement in Abuja, today 22nd July, 2021 while receiving the Chief Executive Officer of the Innovative Ideas Development Services (IIDS), Dr. Chike Okogwu with a delegation from the Centre for Ability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment (CARE).

He also buttressed the importance of high level publicity to widely engage the public through various media channels that will accentuate a paradigm shift in orientation of the society about the persons with disabilities. He said the visit is timely and will open other avenues for more enlightenment on the community.

‘‘Our people must be aware of their rights and their rights must be protected’’, he said.

The ES acknowledged the partnership as a synergy that will create a platform to showcase persons with disabilities who are endowed with enormous skills and talents into the social circus for social recognition and ultimately economic integration. He expressed optimism working with Innovative Ideas & Development Services and Centre for Ability, Rehabilitation & Empowerment considering their experience in the television programming and media services over the years.

He further seized the occasion to mention the legal framework being engineered through alliance with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to enforce compliance with the litigation on the abuse and discrimination against PWDs. He said some of the highway pedestals paved for PWDs have been blocked by illegal roadside traders and other obstructive agents will no longer be tolerated.

In his reaction, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Chike Okogwu expressed a deep sense of appreciation to the Executive Secretary for the opportunity to be incorporated into the advocacy spear-headed by the Commission and promised to keep the fire burning until the message gets to the nooks and crannies of the Country and beyond.
