The saying that “there’s ability in disability” came to the fore yesterday, when blind students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, held “Yes We Can” volume two programme to the amazement of all participants.
The event, held at the digital library field of the University, attracted the University Community, including the Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Esimone, blind students and their relations among others.
While revealing that the dexterity and ingenuity of the visually impaired students was as a result of the University’s resolve to ensure that they have all it takes to be the best in their chosen careers, Professor Esimone announced that the school will institute a scholarship scheme for the less privileged ones among them for them to study with ease.
The chairman on the occasion, Sir G.U Okeke, who charged the students to be of good behaviour and ensure that nothing stops them from reaching their God given talents, announced that he will be supporting them financially every year to ease their burden.
In a lecture titled, “Blindness not a Hindrance,” Professor Can Nwankwo of the Department of Guidance and Counseling, urged parents and guidance to help the students to develop high self-esteem, one of the prerequisites for them to excel in life.
