Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno, Empowers Children with Disabilities with Essential Donations at Ekpenebom Leprosy Colony

In a heartwarming demonstration of compassion and inclusive governance, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has extended a generous hand to children with disabilities at the Ekpenebom Leprosy Colony/Hospital in Etinan Local Government Area. The governor, through his administration, donated an array of essential items, including food supplies, clothing, and both disposable and reusable essentials, bringing hope and smiles to the beneficiaries and their families.

The initiative was led by Mrs. Nnene Bassey, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Persons with Disabilities, who oversaw the distribution of the items. Speaking during the event, Mrs. Bassey emphasized that the governor’s gesture is a reflection of his unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities across the state.

“Governor Umo Eno is deeply committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities live dignified and fulfilling lives, just like their counterparts without disabilities. This initiative is part of his broader vision to promote inclusivity and provide meaningful support to the most vulnerable in our communities,” Mrs. Bassey stated.

The event, which drew smiles and expressions of gratitude from the beneficiaries, highlighted the government’s focus on reaching underserved communities and addressing their unique challenges. The donations provided immediate relief to the children and their families, many of whom face daily struggles due to societal stigma and limited resources.

Parents of the children could not hide their joy as they expressed heartfelt appreciation to Governor Eno. One parent shared, “For a long time, we have felt forgotten by society. Today, Governor Eno has shown us that we are not invisible. This act of kindness gives us hope that our children will be cared for, supported, and included in the government’s plans.”

Another parent added, “This is the first time we are feeling the direct impact of a governor’s intervention. We are truly grateful for this inclusive approach to governance that considers everyone, regardless of their physical condition.”

Governor Eno’s administration has continued to gain widespread admiration for its people-centered policies, particularly for prioritizing marginalized groups, including persons with disabilities. The governor’s dedication to inclusivity aligns with his vision of grassroots development, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of progress and prosperity.

The visit to the Ekpenebom Leprosy Colony is only the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of persons with disabilities in Akwa Ibom State. Governor Eno has consistently advocated for equal opportunities, access to quality healthcare, and empowerment programs tailored to meet the specific needs of persons with disabilities.

Mrs. Bassey assured the community that this is only the beginning of many more impactful programs to come, as the governor remains steadfast in his mission to uplift all Akwa Ibomites. “We are determined to continue this work, creating a society where everyone, regardless of ability or circumstance, feels valued and supported,” she concluded.

As the day ended, the joy and gratitude etched on the faces of the children and their families served as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of empathy and inclusive governance. Governor Umo Eno’s actions have not only addressed immediate needs but also rekindled hope for a brighter, more inclusive future in Akwa Ibom State.
