Nigerian pop singer ace Davido has donated the sum of 250 million naira raised by his friends on his birthday to an orphanage. 
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that singer friends raised around 200 million naira to him in two days when he posted his account on Instagram, demanding money to erase a new Rolls Royce he bought.
Davido announced the decision on Saturday, saying he had decided to increase the money he raised with an additional 50 million naira and donate it to orphanages across the country.“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to my friends, colleagues, fans and the public for the generous expressions of love over the past few days. With my usual playful manner, I asked a few days ago that my friends and colleagues to me. send money to celebrate my birthday.
“The response and the result exceeded my expectations, as I received approximately NGN 200,000,000.00 in less than two days. I really appreciate everyone who has donated hard earned funds and I am very grateful for your generosity.
“I have always been passionate about giving back and helping people.
“In view of this, I am delighted to announce that all funds received, totaling 200,000,000.00 NGN, will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche Foundation. In addition, I will make a personal donation of NGN 50,000,000.00, bringing the total amount to NGN 250,000,000.00, ”he said.
The star artist then formed a five-member committee to oversee the distribution of the money to deserving orphanages.
“To oversee the distribution of funds to beneficiaries, I set up a disbursement committee of five people. The members of the committee are: Ms. Titi Adebayo – chair of the committee; Professor Jonathan Nwosu- secretary of the committee; Professor Yahana Joel Asabe of the Adventist Union Conference of Northern Nigeria; Pastor (Dr) Oyalabu of the Spring Time Development Foundation (SDF) and Professor Uloma Onuoha.
“The committee will compile a list of orphanages across Nigeria. They will determine the number of children and their needs in each orphanage and then distribute the funds accordingly.
“The committee will also determine the share of the money that will be donated to the Paroche foundation.
“To maintain transparency, the committee will make public the names of the beneficiary orphanages and how much each will receive. A list of all beneficiaries and their verified account details will be submitted to Wema Bank, which will then be responsible for crediting each beneficiary’s account.
“My goal is to do this fundraiser every year to celebrate my birthday and give back to those in need. I hope my friends, fans, industry colleagues and the public will continue to support me as I lead this cause.
“Once again, I express my sincere gratitude to my friends, colleagues, fans and everyone who made this possible. God bless you all, ”he said.
