Group Says Initiative Reflects Sen. Ahmad Wadada Aliyu’s Vision for Inclusive Development

LAFIA, NASARAWA STATE – In a commendable demonstration of inclusive leadership and practical support for persons with disabilities, the Sen. Ahmad Wadada Aliyu Disabilities Support Group (SAWADSG) has donated two motorcycles to persons with physical disabilities in Nasarawa State, providing a much-needed boost to their mobility, independence, and economic wellbeing.
The motorcycles were presented on Monday during a ceremony held at the residence of the State Coordinator of the group, Hon. Umar Dahiru, in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
The donation comes at a time when many persons with disabilities across Nigeria continue to face enormous transportation barriers that limit access to employment, healthcare, education, and other essential services. By providing the motorcycles, the group has not only addressed an immediate mobility need but has also demonstrated how targeted interventions can restore dignity and expand opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Presenting the motorcycles to the beneficiaries, Hon. Dahiru said the initiative forms part of SAWADSG’s ongoing commitment to promoting disability inclusion and improving the living conditions of persons with disabilities across Nasarawa State.
He explained that the support group believes genuine leadership must be measured by its ability to uplift vulnerable members of society through meaningful and sustainable interventions.
According to him, the donation also aligns with the grassroots mobilisation efforts of the group in advancing the vision of Senator Ahmad Wadada Aliyu for a Nasarawa State where every citizen, including persons with disabilities, enjoys equal opportunities to contribute to and benefit from development.
“The objective of this intervention is to empower persons with disabilities by improving their mobility and creating opportunities for them to become more productive and self-reliant. We remain committed to promoting inclusion and ensuring that no one is left behind,” Dahiru said.
He reaffirmed the group’s confidence that under the leadership of Senator Ahmad Wadada Aliyu, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups would receive greater attention through policies and programmes designed to promote equal participation, social justice, and economic empowerment.
The beneficiaries, overwhelmed with emotion, described the donation as life-changing. They expressed profound appreciation to the support group, noting that the motorcycles would significantly reduce the daily challenges associated with movement while enabling them to engage more effectively in their businesses, social activities, and other productive ventures.
They praised SAWADSG for translating its commitment to disability inclusion into concrete action, stressing that such interventions inspire hope and demonstrate genuine concern for the welfare of persons with disabilities.
The beneficiaries further appealed to governments at all levels, political leaders, corporate organisations, philanthropists, and development partners to emulate the initiative by investing in programmes that promote accessibility, mobility, education, employment, and economic empowerment for persons with disabilities.
For millions of Nigerians with disabilities, inaccessible transportation remains one of the most persistent barriers to full participation in society. The absence of inclusive transport systems often results in isolation, unemployment, poverty, and limited access to essential public services. Disability advocates have consistently maintained that improving mobility is fundamental to achieving true inclusion.
