Project Close Out: AWWDI Engages Over 700 Stakeholders On Inclusive Laws, Policies, Programs Towards GBV of Women With Disabilities

Advocacy For Women With Disabilities Initiative (AWWDI) have successful engaged over 700 stakeholders in their 16months project supported by Disability Rights Fund (DRF).

This was disclosed during the close out ceremony of project on Thursday in Abuja.

It was a well attended project closure ceremony, which is a 16 months project where AWWDI engaged Stakeholders on inclusive laws, policies and programs to reduce gender based violence against women and girls with disabilities.

The project engaged over 500 women with disabilities, 100 women without disabilities, 50 men with disabilities, 28 men without disability and 20 organisation of persons with disabilities, 50 MDAs and stakeholders.

The project life cycle influenced many policies and programs targeting reducing gender based violence against women and girls with disabilities.

The event witnessed many stakeholders, MDAs and massive attendance of women with disabilities to give mark to the work done in the last 16 months.

The participants in one voice said thank you to DRF for the platform to speak for women and girls with disabilities in Nigeria.

The stakeholders present spoke on the creation of disability unit/ department in all their establishment,

  1. Civil defence disability unit gave credit to this project by influenced the establishment of the unit and the impact so far.
  2. legal aid council working on separating disability unit/department from vulnerable groups,
  3. National commission for persons with disabilities gave details of the influence of the project in their programs, targeting women and girls with disabilities, 5. Women and girls with disabilities are bold and brave to speak out on issues of gender based violence against women and girls with disabilities.
  4. Document on the findings on policies, acts and mandate of MDAs aligned with women with disabilities and gender based violence is now a reference materials for policy makers and duty bearers.
