The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) a Non-Governmental Organisation, has said that its awareness campaign on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is yielding good results.
Zainab Aminu, Gender Officer of CITAD said this at the second phase of training for 40 champions of GBV, organised by the NGO with support from Ford Foundation.
She said the 40 champions of GBV, comprised 20 females and 20 males each including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
The aim of the session is to train individuals, both men and women on every aspect of GBV, how it affects the society, handled and reported.”
Aminu also said the first batch of the champions were trained last year and already became advocates in their respective communities, contributing to the fight against the scourge.
“Our objective is to train the trainer on the skills, techniques, advocacy and sensitisation campaign against the menace of GBV in communities.
“We expect them to go and step down the knowledge they acquired,” Aminu said.
She described GBV as a monster that requires collective efforts and a rigorous campaign with a view to curtailing it.
Some of the participants selected from various communities applauded CITAD for the training and stated their readiness to step down on what they learned in their communities.
