Kano State Government has distributed food items and cows to Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and 13 rehabilitation centres for persons with mental health inĀ the state.
The Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, made the disclosure during the distribution in Kano on Friday.
Ganduje, represented by the Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA), Dr Saleh Jili, said the beneficiaries were selected across the Five Emirates and 13 centres of mentally retarded persons in the state.
According to him, the gesture was an annual event to host persons with disabilities and ensure that they too had the opportunity of celebrating Eid-el-Kabir in a joyous mood.
āThe food items include Rice, vegetable oil, ram and cow.
āEach beneficiary received a cow, bag of rice, vegetable oil and N20,000 cash for ingredients and firewood.ā
TheĀ News Agency of NigeriaĀ reports that other beneficiaries include: Emir of the Deaf, Emir of the Blind, Emir of persons with physical disabilities and Emir of Persons with Leprosy with their chiefs from the five Emirates of Kano, Bichi, Karaye, Rano and Gaya.
He called on wealthy individuals to support such gesture in helping PWDs in the state and to assist the rehabilitation centres.
Ganduje further explained that the centres for persons with mental health included Dawakin Kudu, Gaya, Dorayi, Bichi, Danbatta, Minjibir,Ā Wudil, Sumaila, Tudun Wada, Rano, Karaye and Shahuci.
āThe centres under SEMA were designed to provide clinical services, psychological support and skill acquisition training for PWDs,ā Ganduje said.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Emir of the Blind, Alhaji Ado Halilu-Abdulkarim, commended the government for the kind gesture and promised to use the items judiciously. (NAN)
