CYS trains 20 blind students on the use of Assistive Technology

TQM Report,

The Centre for Youth Studies, a non-profit organisation that offers life skills training to students in secondary schools just concluded a 10-day Assistive Technology training programme for 20 blind students in Queen’s College and King’s College, Lagos State.

The training programme sponsored by Access Bank Plc was designed as a Capacity Building programme to equip the students with skills for digital accessibility that would prepare them for tertiary education and the workplace.
It would also make them effective peer educators for others in their schools as well as enhance their learning experiences and further ensure “no one is left behind” in the Government’s quest for inclusive education.

The training equipped the students with skills, software and notes on hardware to use with their mobile phones and computers for greater access to learning and also to infuse them with confidence and more dexterity in the dissemination of learning to their peers. This was evident at the presentation of certificates of participation to the students where they were able to display learnings from the training.

The students have learnt to draw tables, read their e-mails without assistance, fill in Google forms, be security conscious when online, recognize scam e-mails/messages, use the Evo E5 and E10 Digital recorder devices; and beyond that, are now wired to see possibilities where there seems to be none.
