Abia State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has led women groups to the state House of Assembly to canvass for passage of three bills pending before the Assembly. They include: the Child Rights Law of Abia State, Obnoxious Widowhood Practices Bill and amendment of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Law of 2018.
She was accompanied by the Deputy Governor’s wife, Lady Vivian Ude Oko Chukwu, Dr. Onyinyechi Orji, who represented the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Ihuoma Uzosike; wife of Chairman of State Council of Traditional Rulers, Ugoeze Cecilia Nwabeke, members of Child Protection Network, National Council of Women Societies, International Federation of Women Lawyers and others.
The Assembly Speaker, Chinedum Orji, promised that the bills would be passed shortly. He commended the governor’s wife for her sustained disposition and passion for the indigent, vulnerable and PWDs.
