TQM report,
The General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mr. Dare Dairo, has said there is productivity in disability.
He spoke at a one-day exhibition and talent hunt organised by the agency as part of efforts to improve the welfare of persons with disabilities.
Personal and household products, including beaded flower vases, key holders, women hand bags, male and female shoes, clothes, soap and furniture, made by persons with disabilities, who had been trained at the government vocational centres and by non-governmental organisations (NGOs), were showcased at the exhibition held at the Adeyemi Beero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.
Dairo said the event was in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s development agenda of not leaving anyone behind.
The LASODA boss, who noted that ability in disability had become an over flogged cliche, said it was time to showcase productivity in ability and also boost the economy of productive physically- challenged persons by connecting them to the market locally and internationally.
“There is no doubt that there is ability in disability, but beyond that, the current administration under our dynamic and able Governor Sanwo-Olu has proved and demonstrated that no one will be left behind, irrespective of your status, hence the reason we are beginning to look inward to look at the ability and productivity of people with disabilities. We have started adding values in our areas of competence and talents.”
That’s why this expo is important and imperative. We want people to display it, so that people can see that there is productivity in disability. What remains is how to connect to market the things produced by these special people, the showcasing of all that is happening at this expo 2021,” Dairo said.
He said the agency is partnering the organised private sector and the Nigeria Disability Network to help persons with disabilities. (THE NATION)
