Ms. Belinda Madubuike, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja. Jabi Lakeside, announced his intention to renovate and equip a block of the Kuchigoro LEA school.
Madubuike made this known during her inauguration as the 9th president, raising funds for the club’s projects and inducting 10 new members in Abuja on Tuesday evening.
She also announced that the club had seven focus areas which were girls’ education, economic and community development, water and sanitation, maternal and child health and empowerment.
“We are starting with the renovation and equipment of a school block at the Kuchigoro LEA school, as well as the donation of books, writing materials and school bags.
“We will also provide sheets, an electric vacuum cleaner, mosquito nets, mother’s kits, among others, to the government health center in Kuchigoro,” she said.
According to her, she derives joy from seeing people happy after helping them.
Madubuike said most communities do not have access to a safe drinking water supply and for this the club will build boreholes in his adopted communities – Kuchigoro, Karamajiji and Jabi.
She said the club usually conducts an assessment to find out the needs of communities before embarking on a project.
Madubuike explained that the funding of the club’s projects was fully supported by the members.
She said the main challenges facing the club were insecurity and some members unwilling to redeem their commitments.
She said the club will also rebuild the bridge connecting the communities of Kuchigoro and Karamajiji.
“The only bridge that connects them is no longer functional. In collaboration with our community body and the Kuchigoro club, we will strengthen access.
“This will strengthen trade and commerce between the two villages.
“We will organize training and empowerment of local women in manual labor in the community of Jabi,” she said.
According to her, the club adopted a girl that takes care of her education.
Madubike said the lady took her West African Council exam and wrote JAMB while awaiting the result to study microbiology at the University of Abuja.
The lady, Miss Ladalo Isah from Kuchigoro, who is having a disability, said she fell ill at the age of three and became paralyzed.
According to her, it was a family friend who introduced her to the club and since then she is very happy because the club made life worth living.
“I give to God the glory of the beautiful life he has given me and I want to say to Nigerians who have one challenge or another to have faith because one day the mercy of God will fall on them.
“I am praying for a good result so that I can study my dream course in college,” Isah said.
Rotary is an international organization created to provide humanitarian services and has been a leading body in the fight to eliminate polio from the world. (NAN)
