In line with his Open Door Policy, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Mr. James David Lalu received in audience a delegation from the Disability Rights Advocacy Centre (DRAC), who came to pay him a friendly visit in his office at Plateau House Abuja, on Monday 21st of June, 2021.
While addressing the group, the ES commended them for their steadfastness and dedication towards the welfare of Persons with Disabilities and for providing level playing platforms for the Disability community.
He further reiterated the importance of Assistive devices, and the need to ensure that all hands are on deck to secure and tackle the issue of Assistive devices for Persons with Disabilities.
In addition, the Executive Secretary said that some government Institutions such as the Police Training colleges should have in their set of courses, subjects that are Persons with Disabilities’ friendly. He advised that Instructors who are trained to teach such courses should be redeployed to the Training colleges to help educate Police Trainees more on how to handle issues concerning PWDs.
Lalu, however assured the group that the Commission will never relent in its efforts to always support the Association in their exertion to improve the welfare of Persons with Disabilities. He urged them never to cave in to challenges.
The highlight of the visit was the Presentations of the Documented and simplified versions of the discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities’ Prohibition Act (2018), alongside revised and cut down Editions of other relevant documents.
