The Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu has assured people living with disability in Anambra State that they occupy an important space in the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Sir Chido stated this when members of Joint Association of Persons Living with Disability, JONAPWD, visited his office at the ABS headquarters, Awka.
According to the ABS boss, in the current administration’s pursuit of a clean, green, livable and smart homeland, everyone including those with disability is an important stakeholder in order to make the dream a reality.
Sir Chido who asked members of the association to look beyond their challenges, reminded them that no human created in God’s image is limited.
He also welcomed their request for a weekly programme on the ABS platform, assuring them that the station’s airwaves are always open to creative ideas.
Earlier in his remarks, the Anambra State Chairman of JONAPWD, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, said the visit was to felicitate with the ABS boss on his appointment and also to familiarize with the station on what could be done differently to support the implementation of Anambra State Disability Rights Law, ASDRL, 2018.
Comrade Okeke also encouraged the media house to train its reporters in sign language as alternative communication in news and other media programmes, as well as the need to make provision for translation of audio aspect of programmes in sign language and subtitle for the benefit of hearing impaired persons, in line with the ASDRL, 2018.
He also appreciated the staff members of ABS whom, he said, have always given the association timely service delivery, especially being consistent in quality reportage of issues relating to people with disability.
