SSAP Abba Isa Extends Collaboration with Nigeria Immigration Service to Promote Disability Inclusivity

Comptroller General Kemi Nanna Nandap Welcomes Partnership to Advance Welfare of Persons with Disabilities

In a display of mutual respect and commitment to advancing disability inclusivity, the Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Disabilities Matters, Abba Isa, was warmly received by the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap. The meeting, which took place at the Immigration Service headquarters, provided an opportunity for Isa to extend congratulations to Nandap on her well-deserved appointment and commend President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support towards her transformative endeavors within the immigration service.

Expressing his office’s eagerness to collaborate with Nandap, Isa emphasized the importance of joint initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable health and improving the living conditions of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria. He underscored the significance of aligning the immigration service with global standards in every aspect, reflecting a commitment to excellence and inclusivity.

During the discussions, attention was drawn to Section 29 of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, which mandates that all public organizations strive to have at least 5% of their workforce composed of persons with disabilities. Isa noted with satisfaction Nandap’s acknowledgment and support of this provision, highlighting her commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce within the immigration service.

Furthermore, fruitful deliberations were held on potential areas of collaboration, resulting in Nandap’s principled agreement to support the upcoming Presidential Socio-economic Programme scheduled for June 2024. This year’s programme will feature Para-Sport events, with a special focus on shooting and archery. The event aims to provide a platform for Immigration Personnel who have sustained injuries either through accidents or in the line of duty, as well as mainstream disability sportsmen, to engage, compete, nurture talents, and contribute positively to both the Nigerian Immigration Service and the nation as a whole.

The grand finale of the programme will include an awards ceremony to honor the winners, as well as the distribution of palliatives to numerous target beneficiaries. This gesture reflects the collective commitment to alleviating the challenges posed by the current economic realities facing the nation, underscoring the importance of solidarity and support for vulnerable populations.

In his closing remarks, Isa expressed his deepest appreciation to Comptroller General Nandap for her willingness to collaborate and support initiatives aimed at advancing the welfare and inclusivity of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria. He emphasized the transformative impact of collective action in creating a more equitable and inclusive society for all, reaffirming the commitment to work hand in hand towards a brighter and more inclusive future.
