Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, has lamented that sex predators are preying on people with disabilities and abusing them sexually in the state.
The governor’s wife, said the government would henceforth implement the Gender-Based Violence Prohibition Laws and other laws in protecting the rights of women, especially those with disabilities.
She stated this in Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, at a sensitisation programme on gender-based violence organised for people with disabilities.
SIMILARLY, a lawyer and human rights advocate, Mrs. Rita Ilevbare, in her presentation, said no efforts should be spared in tackling the rampancy of psychological, economic, physical and sexual violence against women.
Ilevbare, who is the Executive Director, Gender Relevance Initiative Promotion (GRIP), said from reports, women were most victims of GBV and that such tendencies are more convenient with people with disabilities.
