Persons with disability in Taraba demands representation in cabinet

By Great Ozozoyin,

The Joint Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD)in Taraba State have appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to ensure members of their community are represented in his cabinet.

While alleging ill-treatment and neglect by the past administration of Darius Ishaku, the group called for the immediate establishment of a Commission for the disabled community in the state.

The State Chairman of the Association, Saiq Mohammed, who spoke to DAILY POST also requested that the Commission when established be manned by a member of the disability community.

Mohammed, who took our reporter down memory lane on how his members were neglected during the COVID-19, said the challenges of PWDs in the state would have been fair if the past administration carried them along.“Apart from the disability Commission, we are demanding that our members also deserve to be appointed as Commissioners and Special Advisers because no other group of persons can represent us in government better than our members.”

Mohammed claimed that the association has qualified members with Masters Degrees in different fields and can only contribute to the growth of the state when recognized and carried along.

The secretary of the association, Aliyu Mohammed, lamented that only 8 out of the over 22,000 PWDs in the state were absorbed in the state’s civil service.

He urged the incumbent governor not to distance himself and his government from the people, especially those with disability.
