Osun Govt, NGO Empower Persons with Disabilities with Equipment Worth Over N20 Million

In a groundbreaking initiative to uplift the lives of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), the Osun State government, in collaboration with Real Care Humanity Foundation, has distributed empowerment materials worth over N20 million across the state. This initiative, part of the ‘Imole Disability Empowerment Initiative,’ is aimed at reducing poverty and ensuring inclusive governance in all sectors of society.

The beneficiaries, who had undergone free vocational training in various fields such as hairdressing, barbing, tailoring, bag making, and graphic design, received essential tools to kickstart their businesses. The items distributed included power generating sets, sewing machines, hair dryers, laptops, gas cylinders, pots, wheelchairs, shoemaking machines, and cash grants. The distribution took place at the JONAPWD Skills Acquisition Training Center in Ede, amidst an atmosphere of celebration and hope.

Chief Mrs. Titilayo Adeleke, the First Lady of Osun State, addressed the attendees as the Mother of the Day, emphasizing the government’s commitment to the welfare of PWDs. Represented by her Special Assistant, Chief Mrs. Adebimpe Omolade, the First Lady congratulated the beneficiaries and highlighted the administration’s dedication to keeping PWDs at the forefront of developmental agendas. “You are an integral part of our society with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to our economy,” she stated, urging the beneficiaries to utilize the equipment effectively.

Hon. Kamil Aransi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Needs, expressed his delight at the initiative, promising that this was only the beginning of many more positive developments for PWDs in Osun State. He hinted at upcoming packages designed to further support the disability community, reflecting the administration’s comprehensive approach to inclusive development.

HRH Oba Adefemi Mutalib Adelakin, the Alabere of Abere land and Royal Father of the Day, praised Hon. Olanrewaju Oladosu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters, for his relentless efforts in advocating for PWDs. He stressed the importance of such empowerment programs in alleviating the challenges faced by PWDs and called on the state government to consider PWDs for positions such as councillors in the forthcoming local government elections.

The event also featured goodwill messages from Officer Olaniru Rita, the PWDs Desk Officer for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Osun Command, and Prof. Olaitan Ademola, President of the Ede Descendant Union. They encouraged the beneficiaries to maximize the use of the provided materials for their personal development and the benefit of the wider community.

In his welcome address, Hon. Olanrewaju Oladosu highlighted the initiative as a testament to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s unwavering commitment to the holistic development of the disability community. He urged the beneficiaries to view the equipment not only as a recognition of their achievements but also as tools to realize their potential and become role models in their communities.

This event marks a significant step forward in the state’s efforts to support and empower Persons with Disabilities, ensuring they are equipped to contribute to the economic and social fabric of Osun State. The initiative stands as a beacon of hope and a model for inclusive governance in Nigeria.
