Osun First Lady’s Empowerment Program Brings Hope to PWDs–Hon. Olarewaju, Governor’s aide on Disability

OSOGBO, NIGERIA — In a significant gesture of inclusivity and compassion, the First Lady of Osun State, Mrs. Titilade Adeleke, has been praised for her commitment to improving the lives of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through the RHI Economic Empowerment Programme. This commendation was delivered by Hon. Olarewaju Oladosu, the Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Disability Matters, in an appreciation letter that he shared with the media on Friday.

The RHI Economic Empowerment Programme, an initiative aimed at supporting petty traders and boosting small businesses across Osun State, has recently included PWDs among its beneficiaries—a move that Hon. Oladosu has described as both heartwarming and impactful.

“Mrs. Adeleke has truly shown that she is a mother to all,” Hon. Oladosu expressed in his letter, underscoring the First Lady’s dedication to ensuring that no one is left behind in the state’s economic development efforts. “Her commitment to the welfare of persons with disabilities across the state is evident, and we are particularly delighted by this gesture, which will go a long way in easing the pains and hardships of the beneficiaries.”

The Special Assistant’s words reflect the deep sense of gratitude felt within the PWD community in Osun State. The inclusion of PWDs in the empowerment program is seen as a critical step towards addressing the socio-economic challenges they face, particularly in a society where disabilities can often lead to marginalization.

Hon. Oladosu further highlighted the positive impact of the grants provided through the program. “We are grateful to the First Lady for picking our members as beneficiaries,” he said. “These grants will significantly boost the businesses of petty traders among us, providing much-needed capital to improve their livelihoods.”

The letter, which has since been widely circulated, also reiterates the commitment of Hon. Oladosu and his team to supporting the current administration’s efforts to elevate the state. “We will continue to support and cooperate with the present administration in a bid to continue moving Osun State higher,” he affirmed.

Hon. Oladosu’s assurance that the beneficiaries will make the most of the opportunity is a testament to the resilience and determination of the PWD community. “The persons with disabilities who were among the beneficiaries will put the grant received into good use,” he promised, adding that the empowerment program has put smiles on their faces and given them renewed hope.

The RHI Economic Empowerment Programme, under the aegis of Mrs. Adeleke, has been lauded for its inclusive approach, which recognizes the unique challenges faced by vulnerable groups, including PWDs. By providing financial assistance and other forms of support, the program aims to foster economic self-sufficiency among beneficiaries, thereby contributing to the broader goal of poverty alleviation in Osun State.

In her role as First Lady, Mrs. Adeleke has consistently championed initiatives that promote social welfare and inclusivity. Her efforts in this regard have not gone unnoticed, with many observers noting her deep commitment to creating a more equitable society.

The appreciation letter from Hon. Oladosu is not just a personal note of thanks; it represents the collective voice of a community that often finds itself on the fringes of society. For PWDs in Osun State, the RHI Economic Empowerment Programme is more than just a financial boost—it’s a beacon of hope that signals a brighter future where their contributions are valued and their needs are met.

As the state continues to implement programs aimed at improving the lives of its citizens, the inclusion of PWDs in such initiatives serves as a reminder of the importance of inclusivity in governance. The leadership of Mrs. Adeleke in this area is setting a powerful example, one that other states in Nigeria would do well to follow.

With the continued support of the First Lady and the state government, PWDs in Osun State are poised to achieve greater economic independence, thereby enhancing their quality of life and contributing more effectively to the state’s development.
