Only Selfless Leaders Can Deliver The True Dividends Of Democracy—ES, NCPWD James Lalu

James David Lalu, ES NCPWD has hinted that only Leaders who are selfless are capable of making meaningful impacts on citizens.

The ES made this assertion in Abuja, today 17th October, 2023 during the Inaugural lecture of the United States – Nigeria Educational Cultural Leadership programme Alumni Association (ECULPAA), International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP).

In his speech, the Executive Secretary who doubled as an alumnus of the Association and the Guest Speaker at the event, opined that selflessness comes with humility which is essential in relating with the people at the grassroots.

He stated that the American system is worth emulating, as it cares more for the society irrespective of social status.

“The government cannot do everything, we should try as much as possible to be one another’s eyes by taking up responsibilities in order to make life easier for others” he said.

He further enjoined everyone to begin to think of the things to do for the Nigerian society in order to improve the lives of the citizenry.

However, the representative of the United States Consular, Gilbert Morton in his goodwill message expressed optimism that Nigeria will be great if the country can get its leadership right with much commitment and energy to make things work.

Gilbert equally reassured that Nigeria and America will enjoy a symbiotic relationship in terms of collaborations in order to encourage learning for development.

Also speaking at the occasion, was the Vice President of IVLP Alumni, Mr. Patrick Otoro who described the event as a platform to appeal to political leaders in Nigeria to become selfless in the service of their fatherland.

The high point of the event was the presentation of the newly inaugurated Executive members by the Board of Trustees Chairman, Dr. Habiba Musa-Lawal to the public.

The event tagged “Selfless service as a tool for deepening democracy”
provided the platform for self evaluation in respecting the rule of law upon which democracy is built.
