Lagos, Nigeria – In a groundbreaking move to uplift the most vulnerable members of the community, the Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala, has announced the launch of an ambitious social intervention program aimed at providing financial assistance and support to widows, widowers, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and other less-privileged individuals within the council area.
The initiative, which promises to make a significant impact on the lives of those in need, was unveiled during the “Stakeholders’ Summit and Leadership Training” organized by Hon. Ajala’s administration on Monday, September 23, 2024. The summit, which took place at the council headquarters, was a gathering of community and political leaders, including the former Senate Minority Whip and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon.
Also in attendance were the member representing Mushin Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives, Honourable Aremo Taofeek Adeyemi Alli, and the member representing Mushin State Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Honorable Nureni Akinsanya, along with other esteemed dignitaries, community leaders, and residents of the local council area.
3,000 Beneficiaries to Receive Monthly Financial Support
During his address, Hon. Ajala revealed that the newly launched social intervention program would provide monthly financial support of ₦20,000 to a total of 3,000 beneficiaries. The program, which targets persons with disabilities, widows, widowers, the elderly, and other vulnerable residents, is expected to alleviate financial burdens and offer a sense of hope and dignity to those who need it most.
“The aim of this social intervention program is to give people at the lower level of society succor. It is similar to the social welfare program of advanced countries,” Hon. Ajala stated, highlighting the council’s commitment to addressing the pressing needs of its most vulnerable citizens.
According to Hon. Ajala, the number of beneficiaries will not be static, as the program is designed to expand over time. “The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step,” he said. “This is just the beginning. We are starting with 3,000 beneficiaries, but we hope to increase the number when the need arises.”
