Nigeria Red Cross (NRC) in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), have organised a 3-day training for 50 volunteers members of Red Cross on how to control the menace of cholera in Gombe State.
The Gombe state branch secretary of the Nigeria Red Cross, Mr Murtala Aliyu, said they would train their members on how to control cholera due to the outbreak in some areas across the state.
Aliyu said the volunteers are willing to contribute their quota in giving service to their state voluntarily, as they usually provide free service in the Nation.
According to him, after the training they would work for about 3 months within the community, where they would carry enlightenment campaign across the community on how to prepare Oral Rehydrated Solution (ORS), in order to give it to the cholera patient.
Aliyu, added that the collaboration would yield a positive contribution, while urging the state government to assist them as they look forward to continue partnering with other agencies in providing relief to the people.
He also used the medium to call on the general public to imbibe the habit of good hygiene for the benefit of their life.
Some participants interviewed expressed their delight, while restating their commitment to provide improved service.
They revealed that they would use their training as a means of contributing to the enlightenment the community on the issue of cholera.
The participant were drawn from Balanga and Gombe local government areas of the state.
