The National Commission for Persons with Disability has announced its readiness to empower one hundred Persons With Disabilities with Point of Sale (POS) machine.
The Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Mr. James David Lalu made the disclosure in Abuja, today 2nd November, 2023 during a live program at Human Rights Radio (Brekete family program).
Mr. James David Lalu who was represented at the occasion by Hajia Fatima Abubakar Doki of Planning Research and Statistics Department of the Commission, declared that there will be a training program to be carried out next week in Abuja for Persons with Disabilities on how to operate POS.
“The Commission intends not only to train persons with Disabilities, but also, to empower them with the POS machine and financial assistance to enable them start up their businesses”, he echoed.
Following an incident which occurred previously regarding a blind girl and 7 other PWDs who wanted to study Braille, the Commission has decided to take them to the school for the blind in Abuja, instead of Lagos and Jos due to paucity funds.
In addition, the Commission will provide accommodation for each one of them and besides Braille learning, the beneficiaries will be taken to the Women Center Abuja for a computer appreciation programme.
Nevertheless, the Commission will further award one hundred and six (106) scholarships to students with Disabilities in tertiary institutions across Nigeria after the training.
While appreciating the Commission, the ‘Ordinary President’ CEO of the Human Rights Radio/Television Dr. Ahmed Isa offered to provide ‘Educational videos’ which he intends to use in sensitizing Persons with Disabilities on security intelligence on financial crimes.
