NCPWD donates food items and relief materials to Schools for PWDs in FCT

In a bid to fulfilling the mandate of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, the Executive Secretary, Mr. James David Lalu represented by the Director, Social Integration Department NCPWD, Mr. Lawrence ldemudia has donated food items and other relief materials to the School for the Blind, Jabi and school for the Deaf, Kuje today 10th February, 2022.

In a press release signed by Mbanefo JohnMicheal I, the head of Media and Publicity, NCPWD, the ES in his warm remarks at event, reiterated the Commission’s resolve to continuously provide succour to children with disabilities in various capacities.

He, therefore seized the occasion to encourage the pupils not to be discouraged in pursuing their dreams.

” You can achieve whatever you set your minds to irrespective of your conditions” he said. 

In the same vein, the Executive Secretary admonished the students at the school for the Deaf, Kuje as he said that “deafness” is only a condition that must not limit them from aiming higher in life.

He further disclosed that the Commission was established for them, to give them voice and to make them visible in the society.

He urged them to study harder and to acquire the requisite skills that will prove their ability in disabilities

He then appreciated the teachers who have taken it upon themselves to devote their time and energy in raising the children and promised that their efforts will not go unrewarded.

However, the Desk officer and the representative of the Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Abubakar Muhammed appreciated the Executive Secretary for providing the food items to the disability schools. He described the gesture as timely considering the current economic realities in the country. He said the Commission’s message will be conveyed to UBEB in due time.

Abubakar informed that the disability schools are about 14 spread across Abaji, Gwagwalada, Jabi,Kwali,  Kuje In the FCT. He further made an appeal to NCPWD to extend the kind gesture to other schools in FCT.

In a quick response, the Head Teacher, School for the Blind, Jabi Mrs Uganden who could not hide her joy said that she is reassured that government has not forgotten them.

She equally thanked the Executive Secretary for his show of love for the children with disabilities. Mrs. Uganden also appealed to the Commission not to relent in the good works to the community of PWDs.

Likewise, the Assistant Head Teacher, School for the Deaf, Kuje, Mrs. Goodness Johnson appreciated the Executive Secretary and his team for extending an Olive Branch to rekindle the hope of the students. She bemoaned some parents who abandon their children/ wards due to their conditions.

Mrs Johnson also appealed to the ES to incorporate capacity building in the Commission’s agenda for the caregivers in the schools so as to give their best while nuturing the children.
