NCPWD Applauds Hon. Muhammad Mukhtar for Empowering Over 500 Persons with Disabilities in Jigawa

Kazaure, Jigawa State – February 24, 2025

In a significant stride toward disability inclusion and empowerment, the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has lauded Honourable Muhammad Mukhtar for his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Jigawa State.

The commendation came from the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Honourable Ayuba Gufwan, during his official visit to Kazaure, where he witnessed a large-scale empowerment initiative organized by Hon. Mukhtar. The event saw over 500 PWDs receiving food items to support them during the Ramadan season. Additionally, 100 individuals with mobility impairments received tricycle wheelchairs, generously donated by the Beautiful Gate Handicap Centre, Jos.

A Milestone in Disability Inclusion

Describing the occasion as a “remarkable milestone” in the lives of PWDs, Hon. Gufwan emphasized the importance of collective efforts in addressing the challenges faced by Nigeria’s over 35.5 million persons with disabilities. He expressed deep appreciation for Hon. Mukhtar’s leadership in ensuring that PWDs in his constituency are not left behind in developmental programs.

“When organizations and individuals collaborate to support persons with disabilities, it strengthens our commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities in our society,” Gufwan stated.

Acknowledging the massive responsibility that the government bears in catering to PWDs, the NCPWD boss called for sustained advocacy and more partnerships to ensure the full integration of persons with disabilities into mainstream society.

Beautiful Gate Handicap Centre: A Lifeline for PWDs

The donation of 100 tricycle wheelchairs was made possible through the Beautiful Gate Handicap Centre, a renowned non-governmental organization based in Jos that has been instrumental in transforming the lives of thousands of persons with disabilities across Nigeria. Over the years, the organization has provided mobility aids, vocational training, and economic empowerment opportunities, making a lasting impact on the disability community.

Hon. Gufwan praised the organization’s efforts, emphasizing that mobility is a crucial aspect of independence for PWDs. He urged more individuals and corporate organizations to emulate Beautiful Gate’s commitment to breaking barriers and promoting accessibility.

Hon. Mukhtar Reiterates Commitment to PWDs

Hon. Muhammad Mukhtar, who represents the people of Kazaure, Roni, Gwiwa, and Yankwashi Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, reaffirmed his dedication to championing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities.

“Persons with disabilities deserve equal opportunities, dignity, and respect. As leaders, we have a responsibility to ensure that they are not left behind,” Hon. Mukhtar said.

He commended the NCPWD for its relentless advocacy and pledged to continue working with the Commission and other stakeholders to advance disability-inclusive policies and programs in his constituency and beyond.

Gratitude from Beneficiaries

The atmosphere at the empowerment event was filled with joy and appreciation as beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude to both Hon. Gufwan and Hon. Mukhtar for their support. Many of them, who previously struggled with mobility challenges, could not contain their excitement upon receiving the tricycle wheelchairs, which would significantly improve their independence and quality of life.

One of the beneficiaries, Malam Sani Musa, shared his excitement: “For years, I struggled to move around, relying on people to help me. Today, I have gained my freedom. May God bless Honourable Mukhtar, Honourable Gufwan, and Beautiful Gate for remembering us.”

Similarly, Aisha Ibrahim, a mother of three, who received food assistance, expressed her relief: “With this support, my family will have enough to eat during Ramadan. I am deeply grateful.”

A Call for More Inclusive Actions

Hon. Gufwan reiterated that the NCPWD remains committed to fostering an inclusive Nigeria where PWDs enjoy equal rights, opportunities, and access to essential services. He called on more public and private sector actors to contribute to disability-inclusive development, stressing that collective action is needed to bridge the existing gaps.

“We need dedicated individuals like Honourable Mukhtar who recognize the importance of disability inclusion. The journey is long, but with continuous support and advocacy, we can build a society where no one is left behind,” he concluded.

As the event wrapped up, it was evident that initiatives like these are crucial steps toward breaking the cycle of marginalization that PWDs often face. The collaboration between the government, private organizations, and individuals like Hon. Mukhtar offers a glimpse of hope for a more inclusive and accessible Nigeria.
